Some of my favorite photographs are impressionistic: that is, they look at nature through a lens in which colors and lines and textures become more important than classic sharp focus and big landscapes. For some of these intimate views of nature, I print the work on a softly textured Japanese mulberry paper, which has fibers running through the surface that add texture and a handmade feeling to the photographs. These remind me of some of the Asian art that I have enjoyed, with spare and insightful compositions.
