OLYMPIC MEADOW
On a cloudy day, I hiked upward, ever upward, to the summit of a peak shrouded in fog. It was the peak of the mountain wildflower season, and on this day every leaf and every blossom was covered with dewdrops and raindrops, creating a magical effect. Photographs were everywhere, calling to me in hushed voices. In this picture, lupines and Columbia Tiger Lilies share the spotlight with a combination of warm and cool flower petals.
Elsewhere, there were wonderful flowers with magical names: Prairie Smoke, Olympic Mountain Bellflower, Fringed Phacelia, and Indian Paintbrush.
