DECEMBER SUNDOWN
Sometimes light and luck come together for an evocative composition. I was traveling along Michigan’s own Route 66 through the fallow farms of December. Snow had already fallen and had collected in the valleys of the plowed rows, a pattern that leads the eye to the classic barn and silo beyond. I consider this photograph an icon of our American roots, reminding me of the painter Andrew Wyeth and the poets Robert Frost and Wendell Berry.
