ICE FANTASY

Winter brings some of the most beautiful details to the Upper Midwest, with waterfalls freezing into fantasies of icicles and ice curtains. Even tiny trickles and seeps are colored spectacular shades of blue and green and yellow by minerals in the water and rocks. I return again and again to these places, which are as spectacular as rock formations of the American West, but which disappear each spring with seasonal warming temperatures.
