CANYON LIGHT
During an October backpacking trip into Salt Creek Canyon, we were thrilled to see one of the great pictographs of the American West–the “All-American Man” pictograph. We also saw an abandoned cliff dwelling with hundreds of potsherds littering the ground. There were water cascades and shed deer antlers and stars filling the heaves above hoodoo rock formations. It was one of those backpacking trips that gives rewards beyond belief. I photographed this dead pinyon or juniper where the trail squeezed through a crack in the rock. I thought the combination of orange and pink light illuminating the rocks to be extraordinary.
