LOON IN MORNING LIGHT
The light was sublime on this June morning on Imp Lake, as a pair of Common Loons fished the shallow water around an island. Braving the clouds of mosquitoes that dominated the Upper Peninsula in June, I lay on the shore at water level to get a loon-level photograph of this magnificent bird. Reflections of the spring forest created the colorful atmosphere around the loon.
I will always associate loons with the romance of the north country; their haunting and ethereal calls lend voice to the vast wilderness.
