BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
I rarely see this species, a cousin to the more common Cedar Waxwings that roam the landscape in search of berries. The Bohemians were also after berries, in this case Winterberries, a type of holly native to the Midwest. There were hundreds of the birds descending upon a wetland filled with these shrubs, which were all covered with red berries–until the flock moved through. For this photograph I wanted to show a group of the beautiful birds rather than concentrating on an individual, in order to more accurately portray this highly social species.
