THE POWER AND THE GLORY
Volcanoes of the Cascade Range are elemental places of power. Their shape and size came from eruptions originating deep within the earth, and they are capped with massive glaciers that cling to the mountains like climbers using every muscle to hang on. Add clouds and storms and lightning and thunder to the atmosphere, and you can understand why early people believed that Gods lived among the mountains.
I photographed this dramatic morning view of the glaciers of Mt. Adams from a campsite at Foggy Flat. The clouds came and went all day, revealing, then hiding the mountain. It was incredibly powerful.
