OLD FENCE AND THE SEA
Santa Cruz Island was once the dramatic location for several big ranches, where cattle and sheep roamed the hills and olive orchards and other crops were planted. The island is now reserved for hikers and nature, so it has a lonelier feel than it once must have had. I thought this photograph captured the feeling of the island nicely, with the old fence skipping down the hill toward the Pacific Ocean.
