Twilight Blues Our brains filter and modify what our eyes actually see. We think of forested mountains as "green," but distant mountains assume an ethereal cobalt color for a few minutes at deep twilight. One January, while driving along the shore of Olympic National Park's Lake Crescent, I took advantage of this phenomenon. When I saw that the color was just right, I quickly set up my camera and took several exposures, each lasting 30 seconds or more. The silhouetted maples and alders lend depth to the landscape, which has a surreal quality. Lee Rentz |
