Running out of gas in Oregon

Each generation fondly remembers its own past. Though the gas pump in this photograph predates me, I'm sure there are people still living who used this type of pump all the time. I am a bit nostalgic for a later type of pump--the old rounded top models I grew up with in the 1950s and 1960s.

I photographed this gas pump in a small town in the eastern Oregon desert. Nearly deserted, time had passed this old farming town by, leaving shuttered stores and ghostly homes. It was a place to walk with memories.
