OAK SHADOW DANCE
While walking along a sidewalk late on an autumn afternoon, I noticed how the fallen leaves were casting wonderful shadows. We tend to think of leaves as two-dimensional, but they have a rigid stem and have slightly dried in the crisp autumn air, giving them a three-dimensional aspect when they first fall.
I decided that the effect was so magical that I spent a late afternoon arranging recently fallen leaves of sweetgum, maple, and oak as if two leaves were dancing together, with their shadows dancing gracefully as if lit by a spotlight on the dance floor.
