CLOUD FOREST
We hiked to Melakwa Lake, near Washington State’s Snoqualmie Pass, on a summer weekend. We had hoped to see beautiful views of lakes and towering peaks; alas, our views were blocked by dense fog. It was eerily quiet in our campsite, but the fog meant that I could photograph the mysterious forest with fog bathing the giant trees in a cooling mist. This was my favorite photograph from that backpacking trip, with the immense Western Hemlocks sifting through the mist.
One of my bird photographs from that weekend ended up in a book about the Puget Sound regions called The Salish Sea: Jewel of the Pacific Northwest.
