THE SPIRIT OF SEATTLE
The car and passenger ferry Kaleetan arrives from Bremerton in sunset light at the Seattle ferry terminal, with the Olympic Mountains in the distance over Elliot Bay and Puget Sound. Such ferry trips are an unforgettable part of the Seattle experience. When the air is clear, the Olympic Mountains and Mt. Rainier gleam on the horizon, and the view of the city is simply stunning. Once in a great while, the captain will announce a pod of Killer Whales off the port side; other times the ferry will be delayed by a thick blanket of fog, an aircraft carrier, or a submarine.
As of this writing, my wife and I live part of each week in Bremerton, and she takes the daily ferry commute to a job in downtown Seattle. It beats sitting in traffic on a freeway!
