RIVER IN THE CLOUDS
September brings beautiful light, with misty sunrises and splashes of autumn color. On this morning I was up early, enjoying the low clouds drifting through the spruce-fir forest. At this bend in the river I stopped and drank in the scene, remarking to a nearby woman how magical it seemed. She replied: “It looks dreary to me.” Oh well, different strokes for different folks, as the old song goes (but she might actually enjoy the peace inherent in this photograph).
The river? It’s the Hudson River—yes, that Hudson River. Here the Hudson flows near its source in the high peaks of New York’s beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Unspoiled and clear, it is habitat for trout and is waded by moose. And during this memorable moment, its serene beauty imprinted on my soul.
