MINING FOR SOULS
The weathered church steeple rises toward the clear skies over the high desert of eastern California. This was mining country, and the Methodist Church of Bodie sought to save the souls of rough men in a hard scrabble place. Today, the church stands abandoned, and was last used in 1932, about the time when the vein of gold ore gave out and mining ceased. Today the church is preserved in a state of arrested decay in Bodie State Historic Park.
