While taking a long ride across the country on Amtrak after my mother’s passing, I was comforted a bit by the vast American landscape passing by at track speed. In times of distress in my life, I find that nature and the land have a healing ability that I simply cannot find elsewhere. While passing through North Dakota on the Empire Builder, I saw this dramatic and classic prairie landscape. With the sun illuminating a part of the plains, and the rest shaded by clouds, it struck me as a beacon of hope in my saddened world.
