Is there anyone who doesn’t love chickadees? These fearless little birds keep us company all winter and provide action and sound for the movie in our mind about winter.
This Pacific coastal Chestnut-backed Chickadee shares my Olympic Peninsula feeders with his brethren: the Black-capped Chickadee, which is common across the northern USA and much of Canada. In this photograph, the chickadee looks none-too-happy about having its picture taken!
An interesting factoid about chickadees: to stay warm while roosting during a frigid winter night, they shiver endlessly. Maybe this one woke up on the wrong side of the branch that morning, after a long, cold night, and that’s why it is so mad!
