I had heard legends about Glass Beach in Fort Bragg for years. People said that it was the site of an old glass plant, and that the beach was littered with thousands upon thousands of tiny shards of glass, all tossed and ground by the relentless sea.
I finally had a chance to experience the beach while on a camping trip, and loved photographing the varied and sparkling bits of glass. I did find out a different truth about the place: it was never a glass plant but instead was a place where people tossed empty glass bottles for decades, before the advent of recycling. That is the source of the beautiful glass.
