I have fed the Steller’s Jays for years at my Olympic Peninsula home, and they LOVE the unshelled peanuts that I put out for them. A group of jays will descend on the feeder, franticly picking up peanuts and stashing them here and there among the trees for later use, careful not to let others (including me!) see where they are hiding the nuts.
Some people even report that Steller’s Jays will come and tap on their windows to let them know that it’s time to put out the peanuts. Now!
