I dream of seeing the bamboo forests of Japan, but I also enjoy seeing a few bamboo stalks in the intimate setting of a garden. Bamboo is a grass, but an extraordinarily large and fast-growing grass–growing in some locations up to 36” a day! I find all the parallel stalks of the same size quite mesmerizing in a regimented way. In this photograph I chose to focus on one stalk, letting the others drift out of focus in a wash of green.
