HOMAGE TO MONET 5: Impressions in a Japanese Garden
When Claude Monet lived at Giverny, France, he created his exquisite and impressionistic visions of water lilies. The painted lilies, floating on a water surface swirling with reflected colors of sky and trees, created a sensation in the art world that has never really subsided, and has entered the consciousness of every artist at one time or another. Even photographers, such as me. When I created this photograph, it was a stunning October day in Seattle, when color seemed washed with clarity and every detail seemed wonderful. On a three hour trip to the Washington Park Arboretum’s Japanese Garden, I took inspired photo after inspired photo, extracting every bit of beauty I could from the wonderful landscape. This was among my favorites from that vibrant day.
