Near our Michigan home, winter holds a tight grasp on the land into March, but then a few really warm days melt the snow in a burst of sunshine and warming winds. When that happens, and the ground is still frozen beneath, the farm fields can become temporary lakes. That is what was happening when I stopped to photograph this wonderful spreading maple.
