Social animals express affection to members of their group, and it touches the heartstrings of humanity, because we can relate to the feelings. These horses were feeding in a pasture during a winter day in an Amish community, when this smaller horse cozied up to the larger one. It might have been a mother-and-child relationship, which is what I felt at the time. To photograph these working horses, I love working from a low angle, so that I can see other horses through the legs. This photograph worked particularly well.
