Amish horses are hardy breeds, able to work and stay warm all winter outside the confines of a barn. Between jobs hauling buggies and spreading manure, they are let loose to feed in last year’s cornfields, where they eat and socialize and seem entirely happy, to my untrained eyes. They can run and chase each other, or nuzzle up affectionately when the snow is flying. When I took this photograph it was a day of heavily falling small snowflakes, which were being blown by the wind, giving a misty look.
