We were on a birding trip in the mountains of southern Arizona, where we observed many species that we had never seen before. In addition, we encountered this old favorite, a Great Horned Owl, sitting on a nest. The funny thing was that it chose a nest hole at about human eye level, in a spreading tree around which there were tables and chairs for outdoor seating at a bar and grill. I guess it didn’t mind human company. It kept falling asleep while I was looking at it, but here I caught it with its eyes open.
