I grew up admiring the spunk and courage of Black-capped Chickadees, which are common across much of America and are a well-loved visitor to bird feeders. This one was in a wilder situation, miles from the nearest town, but it was indeed coming to a bird feeder that birders had set up in a wetland along a lonely road. When I think of birds and their shapes, I think of songbirds as having an eye on each side of the head, but this chickadee appears to be peering back at me using binocular vision, more like an owl than a robin. And I can see intelligence in those eyes.
