I have always found Belted Kingfishers to be hard to photograph, since they are skittish around people. I finally got a chance to concentrate on this elusive species while working just outside my home. I live on a lake, and set up a branch for the kingfishers to use, which is nailed to my dock. A kingfisher finally began using it every day, several years after I had installed the branch.
I set up a remote means of taking photographs, and got lucky for two days (out of the many days I set up my equipment). This was one of the first pictures I took.
