I photographed this Mountain Bluebird feather high in The Enchantments, near timberline. It was October, and it got down to 16°F overnight, freezing the edges of the lakes and slow-moving creeks. I laid this feather on the textured ice of the creek surface, which by chance looked a lot like the texture of the feather, and had the added design element of trapped bubbles. The intricacy of nature’s designs is always astounding.
