We journeyed across Iceland in winter, hoping to see the northern lights, which we had only occasionally glimpsed in the past.
The night was supposed to be clear, so we found a spot that might work and parked there, waiting. About an hour later, I noticed a faint bow of light crossing the sky and I set up to take my photographs. It gradually got better and better, eventually resulting in this scene with both green and red lights visible.
The Aurora Borealis is such a spiritual experience, and is rare enough that it always awakens a feeling of wonder and awe.
