Country Road, West Virginia

Several years ago I took a short road trip through the Appalachian hills of West Virginia. What an enchanting place! There were historic small towns scattered along the winding mountain roads, each filled with old brick buildings and wooden churches. And, defying expectations that everyone in America is becoming more homogeneous in speech patterns, the people of these towns (including the young) possessed a distinctive manner of speaking that I have encountered nowhere else.

I love finding old metal advertising signs, and Royal Crown Cola was one I had not previously seen. Plus I like this building's architectural detail.

The title comes from a wonderful song sung by John Denver in approximately the year 1970.
