What a photographer brings to the scene is his or her unique perceptions. Each of us walks through the world and photographs different details and slices of time. Eventually photography addictive as our vision grows through talent, time, and experience.

This painted concrete wall was located in a small town near Michigan’s Mackinaw Bridge. The wall is the side of a building that has long been closed, a victim of the changes that small towns throughout the rural Midwest have experienced. I was initially attracted to the wall by a rusting old metal advertising sign—also an interesting picture—but then I noticed this concrete rose “growing” among the dried winter weeds. I love the way it seems part of the botanical composition.
