SHIMMERING PINE
It was one of those days when the wind was blowing hard and subjects weren’t coming to my camera. Then I walked along a lake shimmering with sparkles on the incessant waves, and I had the idea of working with Eastern White Pine branches in the foreground and the out-of-focus sparkles in the background. Even with the wind tossing the branches around, I was able to work with the technique and took probably 100 pictures–just to ensure that the pine needles remained in sharp focus while the pattern of sun sparkles in the background was pleasing. This was my favorite, and it has a certain zen quality of contemplation.
