RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD
Each spring our feeder is occasionally visited by a Rufous Hummingbird, which has to sneak in while the more numerous Anna’s Hummingbirds are absent. These visitors may be residents, or they may be migrants: we’re not sure, but some of this species migrate along the Pacific Coast to as far north as Alaska, so they truly are heroic travelers! The shades of orange and green are wonderfully iridescent when the light catches them just right.
