MEADOW SONG
Open meadows filled with summer wildflowers and fluttering butterflies are alive with the pulse of life at its peak. For this picture I chose to portray the yellow flowers–a member of the Sunflower Family–in an impressionistic manner, in which background out-of-focus flowers are rendered as fields of intense color, which makes the foreground flower pop even more. Japanese photographers first used the term “bokeh” to refer to how the unfocused parts of a composition contribute to the whole, and I have been conscious of this trait for a long time, sometimes using it to make a composition far more successful.
