TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON
One of my joys during Michigan winters is driving out into the countryside during the heaviest of snowfalls. The area where we live is a patchwork quilt of beautiful farms, many Amish, many not. All the old barns share a history of a hundred years of farming. In this photograph I love the texture of the falling snow against the red barn, which is resting during the fallow season, dreaming of fresh corn and and the scent of hay in the long summer ahead.
The white arches around the barn doors are a traditional motif, and may have originated when farmers needed a visual cue to get the horse team back to the barn at deep twilight.
