WINDOW ON THE WEST
We were walking along the Colorado River at Lees Ferry, the only place that early settlers and miners could easily cross the river for hundreds of miles. Here a small settlement sprung up, and the hardy pioneers built stone buildings from the native sandstone. The ruins are now populated by ghosts, but we could look out the window and imagine the landscape populated by Indians and ferrymen and miners from long ago.
