HUMMINGBIRD AND COLUMBINE
I noticed these Red Columbines at the edge of a talus slope where I had been photographing Pikas and their haystacks. I approached the colorful flowers, and then a Rufous Hummingbird unexpectedly flew in for some action shots as it fed on the nectar of these flowers. Notice the long tubes on these flowers: the nectar is located at the far end of the tubes, which are just the right length for the beaks of this species of hummingbird. The flower, of course, gets pollinated in return for supplying nectar–one of the everyday wonders of nature that I never tire of seeing.
