WATER COLOR 1: Rhythm of the River
There are times when water seems to glow from within. I was photographing Harlequin Ducks cruising the rapids of the Dosewallips River on the Olympic Peninsula. At the end of the day, this stretch of river glowed with the reflected lime green color of sunlight filtering through spring maple leaves.
To give the river a sense of movement, I used an exposure of about one second, which blurs the water details but retains all the vivid color. The resultant photograph of standing waves has an elemental beauty that I find restful and meditative.
