FUTURE TENSE
Yes, we have a monorail in Seattle, created for the 1962 World’s Fair. It was supposed to be a harbinger for what was to come, and we almost got a major modern monorail in the 2000s, but the project was voted down in a fourth initiative (after three successful votes) in 2005. Alas, what might have proven to be a wonderful, popular project was abandoned at great cost, and traffic congestion has gotten steadily worse. Perhaps the idea of the monorail is always supposed to be something for the undefined future, much like flying cars.
