FROM HIROSHIMA TO HOPE
Every year, there is a ceremony in Seattle’s Green Lake Park that remembers the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima that helped end World War II. Whatever one thinks about the necessity of that bombing, the tragedy of all those lives lost is inescapable. The ceremony is called the “From Hiroshima to Hope Lantern Ceremony,” and it involves launching candle lanterns on the surface of Green Lake at twilight. The sight of all those souls floating out in the night is extremely touching.
