PINK SALMON IN THE DUNGENESS RIVER
I heard there was a record run of Pink Salmon in the Dungeness River in 2015, so I headed to the Olympic National Forest to search for a good place to photograph them. We found them at the confluence of the Dungeness and Gray Wolf Rivers.
For this and many other photographs of the salmon, I pulled on a dry suit and set up my camera in an underwater housing, then spent many hours over two days photographing the salmon by laying sprawled on the river bed in the cold water.
This photograph is among my favorites from the effort, because it shows both the male and female Pink Salmon together, as well as showing the habitat below and above the Dungeness River surface.
