WINDMILL AND VINES
Traditional windmills still spin over the Great Plains, pumping water up from the Ogallala Aquifer to fill stock tanks and homestead’s cisterns. Other windmills still have the windmill blades and vane, but only pump air through the long-disconnected parts. This windmill was overgrown with vines, which probably meant that it was no longer in operation.
Windmills are a symbol of America’s vast prairies, and are a romantic symbol of our past, much like lighthouses and fire towers.
