BLACK AND WHITE
The Amish enjoy lives of voluntary simplicity in a land of ever-growing complexity. They farm with horse-drawn machinery, light their houses with kerosene lamps, and send their children to one-room schoolhouses. Their dress is correspondingly modest and subdued, with subtle colors and simple lines.
I photographed this composition of black and white clothing and other laundry on a late winter Monday, the traditional wash day in Amish country. It is such an inspiration to see people living in harmony with their strong religious beliefs.
