RAVEN GROOMING
We often see Ravens hanging around places where humans create food sources for these birds of Nevermore. This was at a fishing dock in a village on Haida Gwaii, where the Ravens were accustomed to feeding off fish scraps from the boats coming to the marina. They are not tame by any standard, and they have their own personal space, which might allow a photographer to get within 30’ before they fly and squawk. This one had recently bathed in some fresh water, so it was grooming: arranging its wet feathers and removing parasites. It gave me enough time to get a few pictures.
