END OF THE SEASON
September brings the first hint of winter to the Canadian Rockies. When I photographed the canoe at Lake O’Hara, a front had come in overnight, leaving about six inches of snow in the high country, with less around the lake itself.
Many people have asked me if this photograph is a black and white scene that I have colored. It is not. The photograph is a color digital photograph of a scene that is black and white, except for the intense color of the red canoe.
What I like about this photograph is the emotional impact. We all have fond memories of wild lakes and mountains, and of the sadness that comes when we have to leave. This photograph captures those feelings for me.
