MOONSET OVER MOUNT BAKER
During an August hike, we camped in one of the best backpacking sites anywhere. Our tent sat atop gravel where a glacier flowed not long ago, with a clear view of Mount Baker, Columbia Glacier, and Roosevelt Glacier. The dramatic setting was enhanced by two Mountain Goats that seemed to know just where to graze so that they would be in my pictures with the mountain behind. It was glorious!
On the first night, I got up for an hour in the wee hours to experience and photograph night on the mountain. The Moon was setting behind the ridge, but still illuminating the peak, and a vast array of stars splayed out across the sky. This photograph was my favorite, with a view of the Milky Way and even the faint trace of a meteor just above Mount Baker.
