EARLY WINTER
Winter snows come early in the Canadian Rockies, and I can't imagine a better place to hole up against the cold than in a snug cabin along the shore of Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park. This September morning was cold, but I was toasty in my down jacket, woolen hat, and warm mittens. It helped to have started the day with a crackling fire in front of a wood stove, to accompany the morning coffee and breakfast. Days like this are a wonder; in a world filled with distraction, there are still places to get away from it all and live enveloped in the grace of nature.
