WILLOW IMPRESSIONS
Impressionism need not be limited to a style of painting; some of my favorite photographs capture the feeling of a time and place without being a static depiction of that location. In this photograph I was viewing the sparkling waters of a pond in upstate New York, specifically at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge between Syracuse and Rochester. The time was late autumn, and there were just a few leaves still clasping the willow stems. Using a long telephoto lens with the aperture wide open, I was able to catch this pattern of sparkles and stems that comes together as an artistic impression of nature.
