BIRCH INTRICACY
In the far north of the USA and well into Canada, Paper Birches are a signature tree, with their graphic white peeling bark and ability to grow where few other trees can plant their roots. This grove of birches was along a passage where Great Lakes ore and grain freighters move between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. What captured me was the graceful shape of the trees, brightening an otherwise subtle winter day.
